Consumers Report Greater Demand for Health Info via SMS

As healthcare costs across the globe rise, everyone is looking into technology solutions to shift the burden of care and engage patients directly. Pharmaceutical companies are rapidly becoming an active part of the health care solution through bulk SMS. By combining technology and telecommunications, pharmaceutical companies can provide health information by send text messages online to their customer’s phones. These messages can include reminders to get flu shots or schedule their regular health checkups early, all kinds of information, with the primary goal being to engage the patients and reduce the load on patient monitoring and phone calls to and from the doctor’s offices.

Increasing numbers of home healthcare providers are also looking into the ability to tap into sending SMS from computer as a way to monitor their patients at home. As healthcare providers are able to build trust and engage in regular communication with their at-home patients, patients are further drawn into engaging in their own healthcare by send text messages to their providers to let them know all is well or something is not quite right.

As consumers has become further and further angry at waiting for healthcare, finding SMS solutions may just ease the burden while also engaging the population in better self healthcare at the same time. Increased availability of remote patient monitoring systems will soon complement disease management and engage consumers with their home health care providers through constant feedback on their health and a direct line of communication.

Aussies Prove a Text Crazy Group

According to a survey commissioned by Australian telephone company, Telestra, one in three Australians indicate they use SMS messaging software to announce important life events when compared to voice contact. The report also found that there are few places where texting is considered gauche as Aussies admit they text from entertainment venues such as the movies, in business meetings, and even at important life events such as weddings, funerals, and christenings.

It seems the SMS servers in Australia are getting a good workout as the report reveals the influence of mobile technology on increasingly busy lifestyles. Texting seems to have become an indispensable part of the every day in Australia. As a valued form of instant communication, the trends have revealed other social insights as well. One in four Australians report discovering their partner is cheating by reading a text message. Further 20% of survey respondents indicated they had accidentally sent a message meant for their partners or lovers to the wrong person.

Other texting trends indicate that Australians are also more likely than ever to send text messages online or to text message from their computers. Picture messages are also very popular and Australians use picture messaging most while traveling, when buying houses, or at the birth of their children.

The research was conducted online in May, 2009. A representative sample of 1,200 Australians from both regional and metropolitan areas were surveyed on their mobile phone habits and their use of SMS messaging software.
